Northern Ireland and the Giants Causeway

Our guide says the trip up to the northern coast is as good as the destination.  The giants are enormous hexagonal columns formed by volcanic activity 60 million years ago.  These have spawned legends about the mythical giant, Finn McCool.  These stacks are just plain spooky.  No wonder  so many legends and stories grew out of these mystical rocks.  It was raining for a bit and quite windy and cool, so the girls made a quick trip of it.  There is a new Visitor's Center with cafe which is very nice.

In Derry, we are joined by a local guide for a walking tour around the defensive walls of the compact city.  Our guide, Martin, was a passionate story teller who nearly moved me to tears as he shared the story of Derry's past.  See next post for more of the story.

Our evening is spent in Letterkenny as we have left Northern Ireland and will be in the Republic of Ireland for the remainder of our tour.

No wonder the Irish are so fond of our beaches....this is what most of theirs look like.i
